Chemical coating is a process where a protective or functional layer is applied to the surface of a material using chemical compounds.

This coating can serve various purposes, such as enhancing corrosion resistance, improving durability, reducing friction, or adding aesthetic qualities like colour or gloss. Chemical coatings can be applied through several methods, including dipping, spraying, brushing, or electrochemical processes.

At The Exact Group, we have a state-of-the-art clear chemical coating facility onsite which negates reliance on outside contractors and enables us to process parts 24/7. This process has been built around our customers’ requirements and is approved to AS9100 Rev D. The preferred clear chemical coating we offer is Surtec 650, however alternatives are available upon request.

SurTec 650 Properties:

  • Hexavalent chromium free passivation for aluminium
  • Suitable as post-treatment of anodic coatings
  • Suitable as conversion coating of magnesium
  • Liquid concentrate, based on trivalent chromium
  • Excellent bare corrosion protection comparable to hexavalent passivations
  • Works on alloyed and casted aluminium
  • Suitable as pre-treatment before lacquering, powder coating and gluing
  • Approved by GSB and QUALICOAT
  • Easy to handle in immersion, spray and wipe, application produces an iridescent, faintly blue to tan visible layer
  • Meets or exceeds MIL-DTL-81706B and MIL-DTL-5541F for bare corrosion (336 h in NSS per ASTM B-117, respectively, DIN EN ISO 9227)

The key benefits of chemical coatings:

  • Chemical coatings protect metals and other materials from rust and deterioration due to environmental factors like moisture, chemicals, or salt.
  • Coatings increase the lifespan of products by providing resistance to wear, abrasion, and weathering.
  • Chemical coatings can enhance the appearance of surfaces by providing glossy finishes, vibrant colours, or matte textures.
  • Coatings can prevent materials from sticking, making them ideal for machinery and industrial applications.
  • Chemical coatings protect materials from ultraviolet radiation, preventing degradation and discoloration due to sun exposure.
  • Chemical coatings can make materials resistant to chemicals, oils, and other harsh environmental substances.
Chemical Coating

The industries that use chemical coatings:

  • Automotive: Chemical coatings protect vehicle parts from corrosion, improve durability, and add finishes to enhance appearance.
  • Aerospace and Space: Used to protect aircraft components from extreme temperatures, corrosion, and wear, ensuring performance and safety.
  • Healthcare and Medical Devices: Anti-microbial and biocompatible coatings are used for surgical tools, implants, and medical devices to ensure hygiene and reduce infection risks.
  • Marine: Ships, boats, and offshore structures are coated to resist saltwater corrosion and marine organism buildup.
