Founded in 2007 by Stephen and Marie Cromie, The Exact Group has grown from a small operation into a leading name in precision engineering and specialised finishing. Stephen’s extensive experience in engineering began with his first business in 1999, where he supplied custom equipment to fast-food chains. In 2007, he expanded into conventional milling, turning, and fabrication, followed by an engine refurbishment workshop in 2009.
In 2013, Stephen recognised a growing demand for scalable CNC Milling and Turning services, leading to the creation of Exact CNC. At his side throughout this journey, Marie Cromie has contributed her expertise in finance and business management, adding significant value to the company’s growth over the past two decades.
Today, The Exact Group operates from a state-of-the-art 72,000 sq. ft. facility near Newry’s Carnbane Industrial area. Lean methodologies and advanced efficiency modelling maximise the site’s operational capacity, with the facility strategically located five minutes from Newry, an hour from Belfast, and an hour from Dublin.
With years of experience in precision engineering and specialised finishing, The Exact Group is a trusted supplier for global businesses in aerospace, automotive, electrical, energy, marine, medical, pharmaceutical, power, and transport industries. The company’s modern capabilities include a specialised composite finishing suite, six high-performance paint ovens, and over 70 CNC Turning and Milling machines that operate 24/7, 365 days a year.
Operating in distinct areas that include CNC, finishing, fabrication and assembly, The Exact Group provides a range of high-quality services, including a Rapid Response “Speed Shop” tailored to the aircraft interiors industry.
The company’s portfolio has expanded with the acquisition of Orby Engineering – a long-standing manufacturer of livestock feeding equipment for the agricultural sector, with over 60 years of engineering experience which was acquired by Stephen Cromie in 2016. Most recently, Stephen introduced Exact Medical, which was established to meet rising demands in the medical sector.
